STEP 1: Create Guides¶
Edition: Core and Pro
Purpose¶
Create an editable guide locator for each texture part. Guides define the surface position used by Create Control.
Before You Begin¶
Select a polygon mesh and click Select Mesh. The selected mesh must have valid UVs. A new selection starts an independent setup rather than inheriting the prior mesh state.
Interface Fields¶
| Field | Description | Required | Default | Edition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Prefix: | Part name used for the guide and later rig names. | Yes | Prefix |
Core and Pro |
| Create Mirrored Pair | Enables a left/right pair for the current part. | No | Off | Core and Pro |
Axis: X, Y, Z |
Mirror axis; shown when mirroring is enabled. | If mirrored | X |
Core and Pro |
Original Side: L_, R_ |
Which side is the editable source side. | If mirrored | L_ |
Core and Pro |
| Parts: | Single-selection list of created parts. | No | Empty | Core and Pro |
Actions¶
| Button | Result |
|---|---|
| Select Mesh | Validates and stores the selected mesh. |
| Create Guides | Creates a guide for the prefix, or a mirrored pair when enabled. |
| Delete | Deletes the selected part guide. |
| Revert | Removes Step 1 guides and returns to the selected-mesh state. |
Step-by-Step Usage¶
- Select the target polygon mesh in Maya.
- Click Select Mesh.
- Enter a meaningful Prefix: such as
EyesorMouth. - Optionally enable Create Mirrored Pair, then choose Axis: and Original Side:.
- Click Create Guides.
- Move the created guide locator on the mesh. Add another prefix if needed.
Result and Verification¶
The part appears once in Parts:. A mirrored part uses generated L_ and
R_ prefixes, but the Parts list represents the part rather than both sides.
Move the original guide and verify the mirrored guide updates.
Common Problems¶
- Create Guides is disabled: select a mesh with Select Mesh first.
- The guide does not represent the desired part: select it in Parts: and adjust its location before Step 2, or use Delete and create it again.
Next Step¶
Set the guide positions, then continue to STEP 2: Create Control.
